Solid Edge is one of the most widely distributed CAD systems worldwide in mechanical and plant engineering. The product data management function integrated in Solid Edge is certainly a good start, but it also reaches its limits relatively quickly as soon as it comes to workflows and the automation of routine tasks, for example. Before companies have to repeatedly go through the process of introducing a PDM solution within a short period of time, it therefore makes perfect sense to look into the opportunities and possibilities of other PDM systems in advance. The apparent disadvantage of having to pay for these systems is often quickly outweighed by the enormous benefits. PDM Studio, for example, pays for itself in many projects within a year.

The direct integration of PDM Studio in Solid Edge makes it possible to efficiently manage the product data and call up the functions directly from Solid Edge. A time-consuming change of the application is not necessary. This saves time and the focus remains on the daily work.
Some functions that can be started directly from Solid Edge are:
- Switch directly to PDM Studio
- Saving in PDM Studio
- Check out documents for editing
- Create copies, for example, including the linked drawings
- Change release and status
- Create a revision/version
- Direct opening of the drawing belonging to a 3D model
All information provided by Solid Edge is also mapped in PDM Studio:
- Structure of the assembly and the connection of 3D model and drawing.
- Quick overview of the assemblies without having to open Solid Edge.
- Synchronization of file properties between Solid Edge and PDM Studio.
- Use the information to fill in the title block in Solid Edge or to derive BOMs in Solid Edge.
- Additional documents can be added to the structure or to a single document for more clarity, e.g. a PDF containing the specifications for a purchased part can be attached directly to the part.
The integration and introduction of PDM Studio is usually possible within a few weeks. Preparation of all data in advance is not necessary. Inventory data is transferred 1:1 from another PDM system or the folder structure and only optimized in the course of processing. It doesn't get any faster or easier than this!
